Wineries from the Goethe Grape Valleys win medals at the Brazil Wine Cup 2026

Wineries from the Goethe Grape Valleys win medals at the Brazil Wine Cup 2026

Vinícola Borgo had four award-winning labels and won the Best of Show White Wine title with a Goethe; Vinícola Quarezemin also received three awards.

The unique characteristics of Goethe wine produced in the Goethe Grape Valleys gained national prominence during the Brazil Wine Cup 2026, held in Florianópolis. Wineries belonging to the Denomination of Origin (DO) Vales da Uva Goethe territory, in southern Santa Catarina, were among the labels recognized in the competition, which brings together experts from Brazil and other countries in blind technical evaluations.

The Borgo Winery, from Nova Veneza, won four medals and was also recognized as the winery with the most awards among the participants. The Sonata di Goethe Allegro received a gold medal in the Goethe category and also won the title of Best of Show White Wine, as the best white wine in the competition.

The competition maintains a specific category for Goethe wines, highlighting the identity and unique characteristics of the variety. “It was a result that truly surprised us. We participated for the first time and went in without much expectation. When we saw that the Sonata di Goethe Allegro had won gold and also the Best of Show White Wine, we were very happy. It's an important recognition for the wine we are launching and also for our region,” says Elias Gava Colombo, partner and owner of Vinícola Borgo.

In addition to the Sonata di Goethe Allegro, Borgo won a silver medal with its Prosecco Brut and bronze medals with its Cabernet Sauvignon Borgo and Merlot Borgo wines.

Recognition also for the Quarezemi Winery.

From Içara, the Quarezemin Winery was also among the award-winning wineries in the region. The Quarezemin Margherita, in its Goethe dry white table wine and Goethe semi-dry white table wine versions, received recognition in the competition. The Goethe Rosé, a semi-dry rosé table wine made with this variety, was also awarded a bronze medal.

For Beatriz Quarezemin, co-owner of the winery, the awards represent recognition of work built up over time.

“Receiving these medals at the Brazil Wine Cup is a source of great pride for us. Each recognition represents the result of work done with dedication, care, and commitment to the quality of our wines. Seeing our labels among the award winners is a huge joy and a confirmation that we are on the right track, taking the quality of our production even further,” he emphasizes.

Science, sensory evaluation and the market

Held in Florianópolis, the Brasil Wine Cup 2026 is part of an international program dedicated to the evaluation of beverages and gastronomic products. This edition includes competitions in different categories and features the participation of experts from seven countries.

The products are evaluated in blind tastings, following technical and sensory criteria. The program also includes the Brazil Sensory Summit, aimed at disseminating scientific, technological, and innovation knowledge related to the food and beverage sectors.

According to Patrícia Mazo, president of the Goethe Progoethe Grape and Wine Producers Association, the presence of the award-winning labels reinforces the visibility of a wine production directly linked to the territory's identity. The region brings together eight associated wineries and holds the first and only Designation of Origin for wines in Santa Catarina, recognized in 2025.

"The result at the Brazil Wine Cup increases the recognition of wines produced in the region and highlights the potential of the Goethe grape in technical evaluations that bring together different varieties and styles of wines," he concludes.
