Tennent’s takes on the stout market with new launch
Tennent’s is embracing its dark side with the launch of Tennent’s Stout, a rich dark beer inspired by centuries of brewing heritage.
Brewed to 4.0% ABV, Tennent’s Stout delivers a rich roasted character with hints of chocolate, liquorice, treacle and coffee. A moderate bitterness and smooth, creamy finish create a sessionable serve that can be poured in one or two parts without affecting the taste or appearance.
It might be synonymous with lager, but Stout was the cornerstone of Tennent’s craft with the very first batch brewed at Wellpark Brewery in 1740. Throughout the 18 th and 19 th centuries Tennent’s exported rich, robust stouts across the globe, earning a reputation as the world’s largest bottled beer exporter. Today, Tennent’s still brews Export Stout for markets overseas but with demand for darker beers showing no signs of slowing, the brewer is now honouring its stout legacy with a modern revival.
The launch of Tennent’s Stout is the latest release with recent NPD including Tennent’s Tops, a limited edition citrusy flavoured lager and Tennent’s Bavarian Pilsner which has been permanently added to the range following consumer demand. The expanded portfolio is helping Tennent’s appeal to evolving consumer tastes including those looking to moderate with Tennent’s Zero and Tennent’s Light also in the mix.
Commenting on the launch, Hazel Alexander, senior brand manager for Tennent’s Lager, said: “With such a rich heritage brewing stout it was only right that we created our own brew for people on home soil to enjoy. The launch of Tennent’s Stout is not only a special moment for us, as we honour our brewing roots, but also for our customers who we know have huge collective pride in where they are from and what they choose to drink. We’re extremely proud of the final product which has performed excellently in consumer testing.
“Demand for darker beers remains high with consumers more open to trying different stouts. In Scotland alone, the stout category grew 22.6% in volume in the last two years 1 and we wanted to create a stout that Scots can call their own. Tennent’s Stout will be a great addition on the bar allowing venues to offer something new in the category especially in time for the darker months when sales tend to peak.”
The launch will be supported with a digital marketing and PR campaign as well as activity across the on trade over the coming months.
Available to order now from Tennent’s Direct, Tennent’s Stout will be rolling out across on trade venues from this month.
