Quarantine in Milan: 3 online initiatives to combat boredom in the kitchen

Coronavirus: 3 online initiatives for quarantine. Yet another week of quarantine due to the coronavirus is coming to an end, and between flash mobs on balconies and video calls on Instagram, the boredom of not being able to leave the house is often taking its toll.

Online cooking classes

A recognized prerogative of the Congusto Gourmet Institute is its ability to never stand still, to keep pace with changes over time, and to consistently deliver high-quality lessons. This is demonstrated once again. Regarding professional training, thanks to the online learning method, students can follow theoretical lessons on topics such as HACCP regulations and nutrition theory, as well as have orientation sessions with tutors and teachers. Online lessons, held on the WeSchool platform, are complemented by in-depth analysis and additional content delivered through podcasts and chats on major messaging systems. E-learning also extends to amateur courses.

The WeSchool platform and podcasts will also offer various formats for cooking enthusiasts, with two lessons per week until reopening. One of these will explain and demonstrate how to make recipes at home, step-by-step, with the teacher connecting online. The Institute is working to collaborate in the Milan area with an online grocery shopping platform, so that ingredients can be delivered to students' homes. Some of the lessons will be free. Those that require ingredient procurement (which will only be possible in Milan) and require a more in-depth approach will require a fee.

The real Neapolitan pizza contest

During quarantine, many people, both beginners and professionals, have taken up baking and pastry making. If you feel called to participate, this is the initiative for you. The Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana has launched the #verapizzacontest. Inspired by the guidelines, anyone at home is free to create a Margherita, a marinara, or a creative variation with other ingredients. Once your pizza is ready, it must be baked exclusively in a domestic electric oven.

At this point, you'll need to take a photo and send it via Messenger to the Association's Facebook page. Once published, the public will choose their favorites by liking them. A panel of pizza chefs will select the winner from the 20 most voted. There are three prizes up for grabs. The contest will run from March 20th to April 20th.

The ticket for a month of discounts

Certainly one of the most concerning aspects of the restaurant industry is the economic impact of this situation. Recently opened, [cà-ri-co] is the bistro founded by Domenico Carella and Lorenzo Ferraboschi. The owners had a positive idea: they've made a ticket available online that, once purchased, gives you a 30% discount on both food and drinks for an entire month. The ticket is limited to 100 and costs €50.
