Autumn in Bad Laasphe: When Pilsner meets mushroom
When the first leaves change color, the days grow shorter, and the air is filled with the aroma of delicious treats, it's time for the autumn market in Bad Laasphe.
The motto “Pilsner meets Mushroom” remains the program – but this year it will also have plenty of company: handicrafts, regional products, plants, old potato varieties, children's activities and a varied stage program make the autumn market an experience for the whole family, promises TKS.
The culinary offerings will also embrace autumn. Regional specialties, rustic mushroom dishes, gyros specialties, game dishes, waffles, cakes and crêpes, as well as cotton candy and popcorn, will provide "sweet and savory moments of enjoyment." The Bad Laasphe-based Bosch craft brewery will be serving the pilsner. In the Bosch beer garden, visitors can sample various beers from the regional brewery while relaxing and watching the market activity. The beers are brewed according to time-honored family recipes using the slow-brewing method. "Traditional brewing craftsmanship, time, and a love for the product are the ingredients you can taste," TKS continues. All varieties will be available at the beverage stand during the autumn market.
What would an autumn market with "Pilsner Meets Mushroom" be without mushrooms? An impressive variety awaits curious visitors at the Mushroom Museum in the Haus des Gastes (Guest House). More than 900 different mushroom species are on display there as freeze-dried specimens. But the museum has much more to offer than just a large mushroom collection: there are numerous curiosities and interesting facts to discover about mushrooms. Weather permitting, a fresh mushroom exhibition will also complement the collection. The Mushroom Museum is open on Sunday of the autumn market weekend from 12 pm to 5 pm. Admission is free. On Saturday, the Mushroom Museum will have a stand on Wilhelmsplatz from 12 pm to 6 pm.
The potato exhibition by the Bad Laasphe Horticultural Society promises to be a real eye-catcher on Wilhelmsplatz again this year. Erich Bald will present an impressive variety of old potato varieties – colorful, rare, and some true rarities. Those who develop a taste for them can buy the different varieties directly. "But be quick, because the demand for these special tubers is high," the announcement states.
Greenery will also abound: Fabi's Plant Paradise from Girkhausen, together with Basti's Tree Nursery, is transforming Wilhelmsplatz into a small "autumnal plant oasis." The selection includes hardy shrubs, trees, subshrubs, perennials, and seasonal flowers, as well as bulbs and spring-flowering plants. Those already thinking about next spring can prepare with crocuses, daffodils, and other spring blooms – expert advice is also available.
Even the youngest visitors won't be left out: In the city park, alongside the existing playground equipment, a large children's area with a bouncy castle awaits. Sunday promises to be especially varied on Wilhelmsplatz. The festivities kick off at 1:30 p.m. with the presentation of the prizes from the "Shop Local" raffle. Entries for the raffle, with a bit of luck, can be submitted until September 19th and win a Bad Laasphe voucher worth €500, €300, or €200.
Afterwards, the stage belongs to fashion: From 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., KÖ13 will present the latest autumn and winter fashions in their fashion show. On Sunday, several shops in Bad Laasphe will open their doors from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. as part of the open Sunday shopping event. The event concludes at 4 p.m. with the awarding of prizes for the three highest-rated pumpkins – an exciting moment, especially for the young participants. As part of the "Bad Laasphe Searches for the Super Pumpkin" competition, children can submit their hand-carved pumpkins, which can then be viewed and voted on by the public during the autumn market.
