Hoboken’s First-Ever Official Coffee Crawl to Be Held on 9/20
The Hoboken Historical Museum is hosting the city’s first-ever Coffee Crawl on Sunday, September 20th, from 9AM to 3PM.
Hoboken’s History with Coffee
Hoboken’s coffee scene didn’t appear out of nowhere. Way before coffee crawls, the city was known for food and beverage making. During the late 19th + 20th centuries, there were factories in Hoboken that produced everything from Twinkies and Tootsie Rolls to coffee and tea.
Coffee became a big part of the city’s identity in 1939 when the Maxwell House Coffee plant opened on the waterfront. They were one of Hoboken’s biggest employers for decades. Even after the factory closed in the 1990s, the coffee influence stayed.
Today, coffee has become a big part of life. Coffee shops are not just places to grab a drink. People meet with friends, get work done, and read inside them every day. In a walking city like Hoboken, the shops have naturally become places to meet, making the city’s coffee culture prominent just like it was a long time ago.
About the Coffee Crawl
The ticket sales will benefit the Hoboken Historical Museum’s exhibitions, education initiatives, and community programming. VIP ticket holders get an added bonus as well, with a complimentary espresso martini from Living Room Bar at 225 River Street (inside the W Hotel) to end the crawl.
There are two options for tickets for the experience currently available. Museum members get access to an early bird sign-up for $35 before anyone else, which allows them to sample coffee at all the cafes along the tour. General admission opens at $40 after and also includes one sample at each stop along the tour. VIP is available for $60 for people 21 and up, which will include complimentary espresso as well as a museum tote bag, a canned martini from Velvet Llama, a full bottle of Graza extra virgin olive oil, and more. Check-in for the crawl starts at the Hoboken Historical Museum at 1301 Hudson Street, and from there, the event spreads out to more than 25 participating cafes across the city, including Empire Coffee + Tea, Alfalfa, Bwe Cafe, Joboken Cafe, and Hidden Grounds, with sweet shops like Julietta’s Gelato + Cafe and Two Crepes participating as well. Participating cafes will have sample sips on hand for guests.
