As experts point out, despite the claims about alcohol's health benefits, even the antioxidants in wine don't mean they can offset the harm alcohol causes. Excessive alcohol consumption can lead to serious liver and heart problems and contribute to the development of certain types of cancer. When you drink alcohol, your body metabolizes it into a chemical called acetaldehyde, which is classified as a carcinogen. Acetaldehyde can damage DNA and contribute to tumor formation, as well as cell and liver damage.

Is there a safe level of wine? According to experts, there is no scientifically proven safe level of alcohol. In fact, the less you drink, the better for your health, but abstaining from alcohol completely is the best option.
