A year of bar hopping

A year of bar hopping

The year began with a column by Gabriel Bartra, who wonders if we are witnessing the end of the era of bars, referring to the traditional bar, which is a kind of spiritual reserve of the bar: 'Is the era of the bar over?'

Cocktail bars are thriving everywhere. François Monti reminds us of this in a journey that takes us from Patio de Butacas, a rural bar – 'The rural cocktail claims space from Patio de Butacas' – to the sophistication of the hotel bar, in 'Hotel bars are being reinvented'. Abraham Rivera puts a new spin on the concept and seeks them out outdoors with summer in mind: 'The best cocktail bars to cool off in summer'.

During the year we also toured cocktail bars in Cartagena de Indias, with Erin Rose – 'Luna, the Mermaid Tattoo Artist of El Barón' -, in Lima with Javier Masías – 'Lady Bee, Peruvian cocktails against the current' - and in Santiago de Chile with the tour proposed by Pamela Villagra in 'The bars that count in the night of Santiago'.

Mariana Martínez went to the bar of a Santiago pizzeria that has been taken over by Nadia Parra to create Wine Rebel, a very different wine bar: 'Wine Rebel, discover different Chilean wines at the bar of a pizzeria'. In Mexico City, Mariana Camacho shows us Provocateur, Sophie Avernin's creation: 'Provocateur, a place for wine infidels'.
