Why is it a good idea to cook with stainless steel?

Stainless steel is ideal for the kitchen thanks to its composition of steel and chromium, which makes it extremely durable and resistant. Chromium prevents oxidation, allowing it to retain its original appearance without deteriorating over time, and also gives it an attractive shine that adds elegance and distinction.

18/10 stainless steel, also known as surgical steel, is the most outstanding in its category because it contains nickel, which increases its strength and gives it a silver-like finish. Its less porous structure also makes it highly hygienic, minimizing the accumulation of mold, bacteria, and germs, which is why it is used in surgical instruments and has become the best option for kitchen utensils.

How to care for and clean stainless steel?

Stainless steel reacts quickly to temperature changes, making it ideal for high-heat cooking; however, this can cause food to stick. To prevent this, it is suggested to follow these steps:

  • Place the pot on a burner smaller than the utensil.
  • Heat to a medium-high temperature without adding anything.
  • When it is hot enough, check if the heat is adequate by adding a few drops of water; these should form small "balls".
  • Add oil or butter, spreading it over the entire surface.
  • Reduce the power and add the ingredients.
  • To prolong the life of your stainless steel cookware, clean it immediately after use, avoiding leaving food or residue on it for extended periods. Do not pour cold water onto hot stainless steel. Use soft sponges and non-abrasive soap. Although they are dishwasher safe, handwashing is preferable. It is also important to avoid using bleach for cleaning.

After washing, it's recommended to dry stainless steel to prevent water spots or limescale. For stains caused by certain foods, use a paste of baking soda and water or a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and water. Stubborn residue can be removed with a firm, non-scratching bristle brush. For fingerprints or grease stains, use a cloth and a cleaner specifically designed for stainless steel.
