The strength of family

The strength of family

Traditional values passed down from generation to generation, respect for the grape variety, the terroir, and local traditions, have guided the Piccini family throughout a 130-year history.

I still remember the surprise of that taste: sweet and tannic, savory and acidic, all integrated into a balance I'd never experienced before. Since then, I've carried that memory with me and try to relive it to share with others the joy and wonder that a glass of perfection can inspire." That tasting was a turning point in Mario's life. Like his predecessors, he invested everything in researching the most suitable terroirs for wine production. Over time, the core of the company, located in Chianti Classico, has been joined by four other splendid estates, in Maremma, Montalcino, and in two volcanic zones, Vulture and Etna: together, they boast almost 150 hectares of vineyards and form the Tenute Piccini universe.

Torre Mora is the Piccini family's winery on Mount Etna. The vineyards extend between the municipalities of Castiglione di Sicilia and Linguaglossa and are all organically farmed, fully respecting this extraordinary environment, where the black lava rock is illuminated by the colors of the broom bushes and the wild scrub. The volcanic soils and significant temperature variations between day and night yield elegant, fragrant wines, distinguished by a vibrant minerality. The vines, ranging in age from 10 to 25 years, grow only native grapes: the dark-grape Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccino, and the white Carricante.

Torre Mora produces four wines. The Etna Bianco Scalunera is delicate and elegant. Its aromas of yellow flowers, aromatic herbs, and plums, along with an intriguing savory flavor, make it excellent paired with steamed white fish, shellfish, spaghetti with clams, and sushi. The Etna Rosato Scalunera offers a delicious blend of red berry aromas and hints of spice and citrus. On the palate, it is fresh and structured, perfect for pairing with fish soups, white meats, pizza, and a summer classic: prosciutto and melon. The Etna Rosso Cauru, despite its name meaning "hot" in Sicilian dialect, is the fresher of the two reds: it has fragrant aromas of blackberries, violets, and roses, and a vibrant, fruity, and citrusy flavor. It pairs well with eggplant parmigiana, veal with tuna sauce, spicy recipes, and even vegetarian dishes. Etna Rosso Scalunera is striking for the elegance of its intense aromas, ranging from wild berries to summer fruit. Concentrated and savory on the palate, it pairs well with beef and tuna steaks, grilled meats, game, and even lamb with herbs.
