Baked pasta à la gyros

Baked Pasta à la Gyros is a quick and easy meal that combines the popular flavors of Greek gyros with the comfort of a hearty pasta dish. Juicy meat, tomato-ajvar sauce, olives, and baked cheese create a delicious combination that the whole family will love.

Ingredients · Servings For 4 people
  • 300 g pasta
  • 1 bunch spring onions
  • 250 g mushrooms
  • 2 pcs tomato
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 400 g chicken breast
  • 80 g black olives
  • 400 g canned tomatoes, chopped
  • 3 tbsp ajvar
  • 100 g sour cream
  • 100 g pita (Arabic bread)
  • 150 g gouda
Method · 45 min
  1. Cook the pasta in salted water according to the instructions on the package, drain and rinse with cold water.
  2. Wash, clean and slice the spring onions. Clean the mushrooms and cut them into quarters. Wash, clean and slice the tomatoes. Preheat the oven to 200°C. Grease a baking dish measuring approximately 20 x 30 cm with oil.
  3. In a large frying pan, fry the spring onions and mushrooms in a little hot oil for 2 minutes. Remove and season with salt and pepper. Then fry the gyro meat in a little oil. This will take a few minutes. Layer the meat, mushroom, olive and pasta mixture in a greased baking dish.
  4. Heat the crushed tomatoes, season with salt and pepper, add ground paprika and sweeten to taste. Stir in the ajvar and sour cream.
  5. Pour the prepared sauce over the mixture in the baking dish. Arrange the tomato slices on top. Finely crumble the bread, mix with the grated cheese and spread the mixture evenly over the dish. Bake in the oven for about 15 minutes.
