Krug will open Studio 6 at Larrabee Studios in Los Angeles to the public for three nights, from September 28 to 30, in collaboration with producer Manny Marroquin, the studio's owner and a 14-time Grammy Award winner. Reservations for this event are now on sale through Tock, priced at $474 per person.
The initiative, called The Art of Blending Krug & Sound at Larrabee Studios, proposes a session in which the public participates in musical creation through a tasting. Krug explains that attendees will sample several of the house cuvées, share the sensations, memories, and emotions that each one evokes, and then Marroquin and the Larrabee producers will transform those responses into an original composition created live that very evening.
The centerpiece of the event will be Les Créations de 2013, a selection featuring Krug 2013 and Krug Grande Cuvée 169th Edition. The culinary portion will be prepared by Oscar Torres, chef of VERSE, who will serve a multi-course menu paired with Krug Grande Cuvée 173rd Edition and Krug Rosé 29th Edition.
Krug and Larrabee link the proposal to the idea of blending. The French house draws a parallel between the blending of base wines in Champagne and musical composition, in which different elements are integrated into a single work. The novelty of this format, according to the company, is that it translates this idea into a participatory experience open to consumers, not just wine or music professionals.
The opening of Studio 6 to the public also has symbolic value for the project. Larrabee Studios is one of the best-known recording studios in Los Angeles, and the session will take place within the normal musical workflow, not in a space set up separately from the studio's activity. The concept thus focuses on bringing visitors together with both the tasting and the sound creation process in a single experience.
The collaboration won't end with those three dates. Krug reports that the program will also extend to neighboring venues VERSE and Mensano, where a pairing of Krug Grande Cuvée 173ème Édition with Dry Aged Kingfish, blue corn, shiso leaf, avocado, and finger lime will be offered for $75.
Reservations for the late September sessions are limited. With this limited-time opening to the public, Krug adds another in-person event in the United States, combining gastronomy, premium wine, and live music.
