In the former HENI location in Little Burgundy, Frango's offers a new spot entirely dedicated to Portuguese chicken. Behind the project is a team familiar with the Montreal scene, who focus on generous grilled meats, a friendly atmosphere, and a well-thought-out cocktail menu. It's a place worth the trip, especially for its tender, juicy, and absolutely delicious chicken.

A new chapter for the HENI team

With Frango's, Soufian Mamlouk (Lulu Épicerie, Barley) and chef Arjang Sadighi (HENI) are taking a different direction from HENI. The duo are partnering with Youssef Saffoury, head of restaurant management, and Jace Dery, who is behind the cocktail program, to bring this new concept to life.

The name itself leaves little room for doubt: in Portuguese, "frango" simply means chicken. A choice that clearly announces the house specialty.

A friendly space where chicken is king

The space has been redesigned to accommodate approximately 37 people, in a decor where chicken references are omnipresent. Several chicken-themed items are featured, adding a playful touch to the space without detracting from its welcoming atmosphere.

Our favorite feature? The round bar, which makes the place particularly welcoming and invites you to linger over a drink or a meal. You can also settle comfortably in the dining room. Thanks to the open kitchen, you can watch the chef at work while the chickens roast gently over the charcoal.

Portuguese chicken in the spotlight

Unsurprisingly, chicken is the star of the menu. And that's precisely what makes Frango's so special: tender, juicy meat, perfectly seasoned, cooked over charcoal which gives it a wonderful depth of flavor. The secret lies in a long marinade of sauces and spices, as well as a recipe from Bocado Grill, a Portuguese family business on Montreal's South Shore renowned for its authentic Portuguese grilled meats.

The menu doesn't stop at chicken, however. It also features spare ribs served with salad and homemade fries, a chorizo and chicken poutine topped with gravy, and a chicken and chorizo club sandwich with piri-piri mayonnaise, served on homemade bread—our favorite. Dishes range from $24 to $35, and we recommend the $35 chicken and spare rib combo for its value.

Cocktails for $16 and the hidden Salon Badin in the basement

On the drinks side, Jace Dery has created a cocktail menu that revisits some classics, in addition to offering original creations at $16, some of which recall the flavors of Portugal, such as the Posto Limonada, prepared with red port, Aperol and lemon.

And for those who wish to extend the evening, simply head downstairs to discover Salon Badin, a hidden cocktail bar with its own unique character. The menu features carefully crafted cocktails, priced between $20 and $23, as well as a small food menu available on-site.

The place is particularly well-suited for a date, drinks with friends, or simply for winding down after a meal at Frango's. A great way to discover another side of the team, in a more relaxed and intimate atmosphere.

Whether it's for a casual supper, a craving for juicy chicken, or a cocktail to end the evening, Frango's is a must-try spot on Notre-Dame West.
