Unlike some of the Lake District’s busier destinations, Coniston offers visitors the chance to experience a more traditional pace of life, surrounded by historic village character and dramatic scenery. At the heart of the area is Coniston Water, a five-mile-long glacial lake famous for high-speed record attempts, literary history and its ancient population of Arctic charr, a fish dating back to the last Ice Age.
