Sorrento's PGI lemon conquers Villa Massa's spritz
On the occasion of World Lemon Day, Villa Massa reinterprets the spritz with Prosecco, soda water and limoncello made with Sorrento PGI lemons.
To celebrate World Lemon Day, celebrated on September 30, 2026, Villa Massa—a premium brand distributed exclusively by Compagnia dei Caraibi—is revisiting the classic spritz recipe using its trademark: Sorrento PGI lemons.
Dal Sorrento al World Lemon Day
From juice to garnish, from condiment to liqueur, lemon is an essential ingredient in the kitchen. It even has its own day on the global calendar: World Lemon Day, the perfect opportunity to stop and look at lemons with a different perspective.
Not just leftovers to be stored in the refrigerator after each use, but the product of good soil, expert hands, and plenty of sun, making it a guarantee of quality.
This is the scenario that brings PGI lemons to the table in Sorrento, a regional specialty with strong acidity and a peel scented with essential oils, grown for centuries in the same lands (60% of the province is covered in lemon groves): from the heart of Sorrento to Massa Lubrense, from Sant'Agnello to the island of Capri.
The Mediterranean flavour to be served chilled
Villa Massa has built over thirty years of history with PGI Sorrento lemons. This historic Italian limoncello production business, which links it to the yellow fruit, has also earned it the name "Sorrento Lemon Liqueur."
On World Lemon Day, the brand celebrates another Italian icon: the spritz. It does so by reinterpreting the recipe for one of Italy's most famous cocktails: Prosecco, soda water, a few drops of lemon juice, and limoncello. Thus was born the Villa Massa Limoncello Spritz, which embodies all the Italianness of the spritz and the flavor of Sorrento lemons.
A cocktail reminiscent of summer, with the colors of the Amalfi Coast, the scents, and the freshness of an evening gazing out to sea in Sorrento, even as autumn approaches.
Il Villa Massa Limoncello Spritz
Ingredients (for one glass): generous amount of ice, 30 ml Villa Massa Limoncello, 90 ml Prosecco, 30 ml soda water, 10 ml fresh lemon juice. Garnish: a lemon slice and a few basil leaves.
Preparation: Start by filling the glass with ice, an essential ingredient for a chilled drink. Then pour in the Prosecco and Villa Massa Limoncello, adding lemon juice to enhance the cocktail's citrus flavor and acidity. Top with soda water and garnish with a lemon slice and basil leaves. The result is a refreshing and citrusy sip, evoking the atmosphere of the Mediterranean coast.
