Ree Drummond’s Latest Video Shows the Funny Reality of Ranch Life

And then there are days when she winds up in the dirt with a cow and loses two fingernails.

Such is ranch life! 😂

Ree’s latest video stars Bessie Lou, the former bottle baby (read: calf) who has been keeping things interesting around the ranch since January. In the clip, Ree is right in the middle of the action with Bessie Lou, who is not exactly overflowing with patience or concern for her human mother’s manicure.

Ree summed up the experience beautifully: “Patience is not her strong suit. She broke two fingernails!

Also, please notice my new and improved cuss word. (I’ve been trying to get better lately…)” Of course, anyone who has been following Bessie Lou’s story knows just how far this little—well, increasingly not so little—calf has come.

Ladd found her during January’s brutal snowstorm after she’d been born in the pasture and become too weak to stand or nurse. He warmed her up in the feed truck, Ree and Ladd brought her into their heated garage, and after attempts to reunite her with her mama didn’t work, Bessie Lou officially became a bottle baby. She eventually graduated to the barn and then her own pen near the house.

And Bessie Lou has never been particularly interested in keeping a respectful distance from the humans who raised her. By June, she had figured out how to get through the fence and wander straight into Ree’s yard, where the ranch dogs were considerably less delighted to see her than Ree was.

Ree’s theory? “She heard it was Sunday lunch.” Now she’s big, strong, impatient, and apparently capable of doing serious damage to a manicure. Go, Bessie Lou! (And maybe somebody get Ree a nail file.)
