McDonald’s Is Turning Up The Heat Again With Spicy Chicken McNuggets

Fast food chains are spending a lot of time looking backward lately, and shoppers don’t seem to mind one bit. Taco Bell just brought a handful of 2016 favorites back for its latest Decades menu, while Burger King of late gave its chicken nuggets a makeover after plenty of customer complaints.

Now McDonald’s is reaching back into its own menu history for another comeback in the form of Spicy Chicken McNuggets, officially returning nationwide September 1 for a limited time. The spicy version takes the familiar McNugget and gives the crispy coating a little more heat with cayenne and chili pepper. You’ll be able to order them in 6-, 10-, 20- or 40-piece quantities, depending on exactly how gluttonous you’re feeling.

And if that’s still not enough heat, Mighty Hot Sauce is back alongside them, pairing red pepper and garlic with a nice touch of sweetness in every dip. This isn’t McDonald’s first trip around the spicy-nugget block. They initially debuted in 2020 as the first flavor variation on McNuggets since the original arrived in 1983, and sold out insanely fast.

McDonald’s brought them back several times afterward, and this latest return once again comes with that familiar catch that their time on the menu is numbered. Judging by the reaction online, fans are ready to stop doing this whole goodbye-and-reunion routine. “They need to make them permanent and stop the limited time scheme,” one person wrote. “Make it full time 🙏 please @mcdonalds my favorite over the og,” another added.

Some shoppers are already using the comeback to submit their next requests, including the return of Szechuan Sauce and Chipotle BBQ Sauce. Going to McDonald’s hasn’t, how long this round will stick around.

So for now, apparently the only permanent thing about Spicy Chicken McNuggets is people asking McDonald’s to make them permanent.
