Get Loaded Pistachio Chocolate Kunafa Martabak Manis In Paya Lebar

Kunafa: a traditional Middle Eastern dessert soaked in sweet syrup and generously layered with pistachio and cheese or thick cream.

In case you didn’t know, this dessert has been all the craze on social media platforms lately, thanks to the viral FIX pistachio chocolate bars. Another interesting spin-off we discovered recently is the kunafa martabak offered at Terang Bulan SG, a casual eatery in Paya Lebar. @eatbooksg this viral chocolate kunafa martabak has been all over our feed, so we rushed down to the East to try it! 👀 the martabak manis, AKA Indonesian thicc sweet pancakes, boasted a crispy batter and nutty pistachio filling. it’s available at Terang Bulan at Engku Aman Road, so give it a try if you have a sweet tooth! ✨ #kunafa #kunafe #kunafaviral #kunafachocolate #martabak #pistachio #pancakes

The eatery specialises in martabak, with a total of 14 flavours priced at $7.50 each. Some popular flavours include Cheesy Corn, Choco Rice, and Nutella Biscoff. While the martabak menu is extensive, only one kunafa-inspired flavour is available here: the Chocolate Kunafa ($15).

They recently rolled it out for those who’d like to try the viral dessert in pancake form. If it garners enough demand and love, the flavour will become a permanent item on the menu. Just a heads-up: the Chocolate Kunafa here isn’t exactly like the traditional Middle Eastern dessert you’re probably expecting.

Instead, it’s a blend of a kunafa and a martabak; you essentially get a thick Indonesian-style pancake stuffed with Nutella, shredded phyllo pastry, and pistachio cream. After the pancake batter is cooked, sugar is sprinkled and it’s heated for a few more minutes to get that sweet, crispy batter. The cooked batter is slathered with margarine and Nutella, then packed to the brim with crispy, shredded pastry that’s infused with pistachio spread.

If you’ve never tried the dessert before, think of crispy shredded coconut that’s mostly sweet with a hint of pistachio flavour. Though $15 for six slices isn’t exactly affordable, you can share it with five friends as one piece is more than enough to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Else, you might find the dessert cloying towards the end. Terang Bulan SG is an eight-minute walk from Paya Lebar MRT Station and is located on the second floor of Wisma Geylang Serai.
