When talking about flavor bombs, we also have to mention tom ka kai soup (also written as thom kha kai): the famous Thai chicken soup. Did you know that you can easily make it yourself? With just two steps and less than 30 minutes of your time, it will be on the table.

Tom ka kai soup is a well-known dish from Thai cuisine with chicken, coconut milk, and lemongrass. This recipe comes from Martine Hilverda and is easy and quick to make.

Tom ka kai soup: the recipe

  • Crush the lemongrass stalks and cut them in half. Take a large soup pot and gently bring the stock, galangal, lemongrass, garlic, red chili, and brown sugar to a boil. As soon as it boils, add the coconut milk.
  • Next, add the chicken strips and mushrooms and let simmer over low heat, stirring constantly, until the chicken is cooked. Then add the fish sauce, lime juice, and bean sprouts. Let simmer for two minutes, then ladle the tom ka kai onto a plate. You can fish the lemongrass and galangal out of the soup before serving or remove them at the table.
