• 1. Pang Pang Western Food

Two brothers run Pang Pang Western Food at Marine Parade Central Market & Food Centre, with 15 years of experience in three famous chains: Astons, iSTEAKS, and COLLIN’S. The hawker stall opened in May 2024 with an extensive menu that sees more than 15 items.

Of the lot, our favourite was the Chicken Chop ($8), featuring pasta and coleslaw—our two choices of sides—and BBQ sauce for the grilled chicken chop. The meat was tender with a nice char, pairing well with the rich and sweet sauce.

• 2. 5dot7

This one’s for those living along the North-East line: 5dot7 in Hougang is a humble Western stall with old-school classics such as the Signature Chicken Chop ($8.50), Pork Chop ($9), Fish & Chips ($9) and more. But they also have lesser-seen coffeeshop options such as Chicken Cordon Bleu ($9) and Seafood Risotto ($9).

The former features breaded chicken ham and cheese alongside a scoop of mashed potatoes and corn kennels. The risotto, on the other hand, is served with fresh prawns, clams, and baby octopus, with rice in a rich, seafood-forward broth.

• 3. The Only Burger

Former home-based business The Only Burger has a physical stall in Tampines, and here comes the better part: it’s a Muslim-owned eatery. As you can tell from the stall name, they specialise in burgers served with chicken, beef, or fish alongside a wide range of sides.

If you can appreciate strong flavours, go for the Oklahoma Beef Burger ($9.50 for single, $12.50 for double), starring juicy beef patties, double sliced cheese, tomato slices, red cabbage, battered fried onions, and three different house-made sauces. • 4. Wow Wow West

Wow Wow West at ABC Brickworks Food Centre draws its fair share of loyal customers, who flock to the stall for their huge portions under $15. Though the stall isn’t technically a heritage eatery as it’s run by a young couple, the menu nonetheless pays homage to old-school Western food.

• 5. Chef Hainanese Western Food

The popular Chef Hainanese Western Food is quite an elusive stall to dine at especially since the stall only opens for two hours a day. They specialise in Hainanese-style Western grub that fans tout as truly nostalgic.

Try their Mixed Grill ($13) for an all-in experience. This is served with chicken sausage, fish fillet, chicken chop, pork chop, a fried egg, and a medley of sides, including baked potato.

• 6. Western Barbeque

Nestled amongst the Old Airport Road Food Centre sprawl is Western Barbeque, a stall that has been around since 1974. Long queues are to be expected here, as many fans come for the popular Chicken Chop ($8), which is served with a garlic sauce instead of your usual brown gravy.

The garlic sauce is made with more than 10 ingredients, from a secret recipe that has been around for decades. The chicken itself is marinated well too, so it remains juicy even after cooking.

• 7. Ye Lai Xiang Tasty Barbeque

Maxwell Food Centre’s flagship old-school Western stall is so well-loved, that some dub it the best Western food in Singapore. Ye Lai Xiang Tasty Barbeque has been around since 1976 and has been serving up XXL portions of their Hainanese-style Chicken Chop ($10.50) and Pork Chop ($10.50) since their heydays. The recipes here hail from when the founding owner was a cook in the British Navy, so expect rich gravy, marinated meats grilled with just the right amount of char, and generous servings of sides.

Tip Top Western Food is a family-owned hawker business that’s now three generations strong. The recipes have all remained in the family across the generations, though the menu has had updates since its early days in the form of their Chicken Cutlet ($8) and Cheese Fries ($4).

• 9. No 1 Western Food

Another old-school Western food gem is No 1 Western Food, which has been running for almost 50 years now. The large plates here are served simply with one main protein, baked beans, fries, tomatoes and cucumbers.

There are only six items to pick from, of which their Chicken Chop ($7.50) and Chicken Cutlet ($7.50) are the two most popular. The gravy here is also tomato-based, so it is much sweeter than your usual brown sauce.

• 10. Rasa Sayang

Whether you call it the S-11 AMK Western Food Stall, or Rasa Sayang Western Food, there’s little doubt that this hawker gem is beloved by Ang Mo Kio residents. Here, a plate of Chicken Chop is priced at $8!

If it’s XXL portions you’re after, then dine at Hougang’s 5 Star Corner. The stall offers homely dishes loaded with sides at very affordable prices. The Chicken Cutlet is the signature, where for $7.50, you can get a cutlet larger than your hand, accompanied by chunky cut fries, a heaping mound of slaw, garlic bread, and baked beans.

Diehard chicken cutlet lovers should try out the dish from Apollo Western Food. The stall has been running for 35 years now, and their Chicken Cutlet ($7.50) remains a best-seller. Though deep-fried to shatteringly crisp ends, the cutlet still manages to remain tender in the middle.

If you’re team pork chops, then Holy Grill should be on your radar. The old-school Western food joint is located at Old Airport Road Food Centre and serves up a slew of value-for-money dishes. Their France Pork Chop ($9.50) comes with a generous portion of tender pork, well-seasoned before it hits the grill.

The stall has been open since 1986, serving up all the classic Hainanese Western dishes we know and love. Kim Keat Palm Market is a haven for good eats, and one of these is Wang’s Western. The stall touts itself as the spot for cheap and good old-school Western food, and they definitely deliver.

The Chicken Chop, priced at $6.50, is well-marinated and juicy, cooked on a griddle till it is charred just right. Served with a side of slaw and crinkle-cut fries, this is one meal that’ll hit the spot no matter the time of the day.

Seletar Western Food is quite the hidden gem in the old-school Western food hawkers scene. The heartland stall stays true to tradition with their flavours and offerings here—you can get huge pork chops, chicken chops, lamb chops, chicken cutlets, and fish and chips starting from $7.50.

Fans praise the nostalgic taste of the dish here, and how much bang you get for your buck. For a bit of everything, their Mixed Grilled ($13) is where it’s at. You get chicken, sausage, ham, egg, fries, baked beans, and a fried bun for the price.

Farrer Park is home to the famous Pek Kio Food Market, but also the lesser-known Food Park, which Ah Wah Western Food calls home. Run by an elderly couple, the highly rated Western food stall is the neighbourhood’s best-kept secret. True to its name, this Kallang kopitiam stall dishes out old-school Western classics for just $5. The Chicken Chop—served with either aglio-olio or tomato pasta—is charred, juicy, and surprisingly take-that-price hearty.

The Crispy Dory Fish arrives with fries, coleslaw, and a bun, delivering a satisfying crunch, though hints of slight bitterness from reused fryer oil were noted. Also consider the Chicken Cutlet, which impressed with its large size and extremely crispy breaded layer.

Located in Tanjong Pagar and helmed by ex-L’Entrecote chefs, Swag & Sizzle serves hawker Western fare with a gourmet twist. The menu spans All-Day Breakfast, Mains, Burgers & Pasta, and Desserts. Standouts include the Hanger Steak & Eggs ($21.90) served with chimichurri, polka bread, and salad, as well as the Chicken Roulade ($11.90): think of roulade as a sort of savoury Swiss roll, with spinach and wild mushrooms rolled in roasted chicken, and dressed in a creamy tomato relish.

Pangi Nut at Chew N Chat Food Court in Joo Chiat melds Peranakan heritage with Western comfort, thanks to chef-owner Jarrod Poh’s rich culinary background. Expect generous fusion dishes such as Sambal Tumis Fish ($8.80), a crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside dory paired with kaffir lime mayo-topped potatoes.
