Espresso&CO offers a tasting of Colombian coffees
On Tuesday (24), Espresso&CO held an exclusive tasting of Colombian coffees in São Paulo. Barista Thiago Nego, from DaVinci Gourmet Brasil, presented an overview of specialty coffees in Medellín, which he visited just over a month ago, and the trends observed in the sector.
"The specialty coffee shop scene in Medellín is well established. All the coffees, even the simplest ones, have a different flavor," he pointed out.
During the presentation, the barista commented on the practices observed in Medellín's coffee shops. “Among the trends I saw that made a lot of sense is that each coffee has its own extraction ritual. Using the same equipment, the technique applied was different in each coffee shop,” he stated. “Another point is the temperature. In extraction, most coffee shops don't use extremely high temperatures.”
Nego highlighted the high consumption of iced beverages. "There is an increase in the consumption of iced coffees in Latin America, whether in recipes using coffee or with coffee as the main ingredient, as in cold brew," he explained.
After the chat, more than ten coffees were prepared by barista Lucci Salomão. The audience – made up of industry professionals and coffee lovers who are already Café Store customers – could sample different beans, from widely distributed brands like Juan Valdez and Matiz, to smaller roasters such as El Laboratorio de Café, Pergamino, and Típica.
