Emerson Nascimento wins the 10th Barista Cup and will represent Brazil in Portugal
A barista from Coffee Five, in Rio de Janeiro, won the title during the São Paulo Coffee Festival and secured a spot in the Fiamma World Barista Open 2026, in Aveiro.
The 10th edition of the Barista Cup determined its winners during the São Paulo Coffee Festival, held from June 26th to 28th at the Bienal do Ibirapuera in São Paulo. Emerson Nascimento, from Coffee Five (Rio de Janeiro/RJ), won the title. Alexandre Bueno, from Royalty (Curitiba/PR), came in second place, followed by Ewerton França, from Rudimentar Coffee (Taquaritinga do Norte/PE).
In an interview with Espresso, the barista celebrated winning the tenth edition of the competition. “This time I managed to win the title in a very special edition. I’m super happy,” he stated. Nascimento participated in the competition for the fourth time and has already won national titles in the Barista, Latte Art, and Coffee in Good Spirits categories.
The competition brought together 20 baristas from different regions of the country in elimination rounds. In each duel, competitors had 12 minutes to prepare two filtered coffees, two espressos, and two cappuccinos using Naveia plant-based milk. The drinks were evaluated by technical and sensory judges, based on criteria such as aroma, flavor, acidity, body, aftertaste, extraction technique, station cleanliness, equipment use, and balance between the drinks.
In addition to the international trip for the champion, the top three finishers received cash prizes and Café Store gift certificates. The 10th Barista Cup was sponsored by Fiamma, Juan Valdez, Naveia, Café Store, and Oster.
