George Ormond joins Barbary Notting Hill as executive chef

Ormond has joined from Mediterranean restaurant Lita in London’s Marylebone

George Ormond has been named executive chef of the Barbary Notting Hill.

The restaurant was founded by sibling restaurateurs Zoë and Layo Paskin in 2024 as a sister site to the Covent Garden original.

Ormond has joined from Mediterranean restaurant Lita in Marylebone, where he was head chef. He had previously been head chef of Angela Hartnett’s Michelin-starred Murano.

At the Barbary Notting Hill, Ormond will combine his classical training in French, Spanish and Italian cuisine with the spices and dishes of North Africa’s Barbary Coast.

The chef has introduced dishes including lamb batbout with harissa and muscovado labneh; merguez with date and pickled walnut and mint; rainbow chard borani with pine nut and Aleppo butter as well as wild Cornish sea bass with chermoula and ras el hanout.

Zoë said: “George brings so much more than an impressive set of credentials. He is a passionate cook, a natural raconteur, and a true restaurateur with a quiet ambition that was clear from the moment we met. We’re incredibly excited about this new chapter and everything he will bring to The Barbary.”

The Paskins ran London nightclub the End from 1995 to 2009 before turning their attention to restaurants and pubs.

Their London hospitality group also includes Palomar, the Blue Posts pub, the Barbary Next Door and Michelin-starred Evelyn’s Table.

In 2021, the pair launched Studio Paskin, which has seen them consult and collaborate on ventures across the hospitality sector.
