New at Marnixplaats: restaurant Mouton brings a piece of Paris to Antwerp
Since Wednesday, Antwerp has a new address on the bustling Marnixplaats: restaurant Mouton.
From Maastricht to Antwerp
Bex is no stranger to the profession. Before his move to Antwerp, he was a head chef in Maastricht, including at De Slagmolen in Opglabbeek, where he describes his time as educational. Nevertheless, he chose to embark on a new adventure in Antwerp.
"Antwerp is a very vibrant city, also culinarily," says Bex. "I think there are a lot of people there who enjoy getting out for a bit, and that seemed like the ideal place to continue."
Burgundian and French, with a twist
Restaurant Mouton describes itself as a truly French, Burgundian restaurant. The menu features classic French dishes, complemented by Belgian dishes that occasionally receive a quirky twist, inspired by other cuisines for just that touch of freshness.
Anyone unsure what to order can turn to the chef himself for advice. As a starter, he recommends the gambas escargot, a dish that he says is gradually becoming a signature dish of the establishment. The sweet onion tart with gratinated gorgonzola is also particularly popular. For those who prefer a main course: a fine piece of meat from the charcoal grill, or one of the daily fresh fish dishes, are all highly recommended.
Prices on the menu vary. There are more affordable dishes on the menu, but those who prefer to splurge can opt for the more luxurious options, such as the sole currently on the menu.
The menu changes with the season.
The menu at Mouton is not fixed. It is primarily adapted to the season, but also periodically whenever the team feels like trying something new. On average, the menu is updated every one and a half to two months.
Practical
Restaurant Mouton is open from 12 noon, with a kitchen open from 12 pm to 10 pm. The establishment is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. No specific events are currently planned, but the team is brainstorming ideas to entertain guests even more in the future.
