Pompeii toasts the grape harvest: Wine Festival in the heart of the excavations

Visits to the archaeological area's vineyards, toasts with Feudi di San Gregorio wines, and a tasting of the park's PGI olive oil.

The grape harvest returns to Pompeii, and with the cutting and harvesting of grapes from the ancient vineyards of the archaeological area, the Wine Festival is celebrated. On Wednesday, September 16th, during the first harvest—the fruit of the winemaking project born from the public-private partnership with the Tenute Capaldo Group, through the Feudi di San Gregorio and Basilisco wineries—visitors will be able to explore some of the archaeological area's vineyards and rediscover the profound connection with the vine and the culture of wine. With the Wine Festival, Pompeii thus reimagines, in a contemporary key, an event that recalls the ancient agricultural knowledge linked to Bacchus, god of wine, the vine, conviviality, and the rebirth of nature.

This is a particularly significant theme for the Park, which throughout 2026 has dedicated several activities and initiatives to the Dionysian dimension of Pompeian life, also following the recent discovery of the Hall of the Thiasos in Regio IX, 10. For the occasion, there will be a toast with wines from Feudi di San Gregorio and a tasting of the Park's bread and Pùmpaiia IGP olive oil, as well as other products from the Parvula Domus – the Park's cultural and social farm, an expression of contemporary agricultural production developed within the archaeological site. This year's harvest will be from the 14 small vineyards located within the Park's Domus, covering a total area of just over one hectare, also cultivated for research and educational purposes. With the 2026 harvest, the project enters its first production phase, bringing back to the heart of the ancient city an agricultural practice that was part of the daily life of its inhabitants and which today once again serves as an opportunity for knowledge, research, and sharing.

Throughout the day, visitors will be able to witness the grape harvest, take part in tours of some of the archaeological area's vineyards, and enjoy a convivial moment with a toast featuring Feudi di San Gregorio wines, a tasting of bread and IGP olive oil from the Park, and Pùmpaiia products from the Parvula Domus/Cultural and Social Farm of the Park.

Pierpaolo Sirch, agronomist at Feudi di San Gregorio, Antonio Capaldo, President of Feudi di San Gregorio, and Gabriel Zuchtriegel, Director of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, will be present.
