Boon Brewery scores six out of six at the World Beer Awards
Brouwerij Boon had an exceptionally strong week at the World Beer Awards in London, one of the world's leading beer competitions.
In the Belgian Style Blond category, Duivelsbier Blond was named Country Winner and thus the best Belgian blond beer (6%). An impressive achievement: blond beer is produced by many breweries in Belgium, and the competition in this category is therefore fierce. The fact that Duivelsbier Blond, which was only launched this year, immediately tops the category is therefore quite a feat.
The Geuze category earned Brouwerij Boon no fewer than three gold medals: for Geuze Mariage Parfait, Oude Geuze Boon, and Oude Geuze Boon Black Label. This makes Brouwerij Boon the only brewer worldwide to win three gold medals in the same category this year. “The jury clearly had a hard time making a top three from our beers; they all got gold!” says Karel Boon proudly.
Boon Millésime Schaarbeekse Kriek and Duivelsbier Wild also won awards, taking silver in the Kriek category and bronze in the Wild Bier category, respectively. “It is a top performance and another great recognition,” says Jos Boon. “The fact that Duivelsbier Blond won straight away in such a competitive category gives us immense pleasure. We put a lot of work into the right, custom-made malt and the right hops, and that clearly translates into the appreciation of the beer – this competition proves that yet again. And three gold medals for our gueuzes also shows how the quality of our brewery is consistently recognized time and again.”
Magnum bottle and new Millésime in September.
Incidentally, you can expect two new releases in September, which works out perfectly right now. For the first time, Boon has produced a magnum bottle (1.5 liters) of Oude Geuze Boon, in a limited edition of around 600 units – a beautiful bottle to celebrate this achievement. The new Boon Millésime will also follow in early September, made with Schaarbeek cherries from the 2024 harvest.
