"Tullia": Busto Arsizio's centenarian celebrates with the entire town.

Who knows if one day we'll reach 100 years old. If that were to happen, we'd love to throw a party like the one Mrs. Enrica Azzimonti of Busto Arsizio just threw. It was a celebration for the entire town, proud to celebrate its new centenarian. She's the star of the moment in the Varese area. Everyone was there for her 100th birthday, even a councilor who came to bring her a commemorative plaque and greetings from the administration, which he then posted on Facebook photos that perfectly convey the idea of the beautiful family surrounding the town's new centenarian.

The story of centenarian Enrica Azzimonti

Everyone calls her "Tullia": that's how her fellow citizens call her, even though she actually comes from nearby. She's from Legnano, born on September 3, 1926. At the age of three, she moved to the neighboring town and stayed. She grew up in a family of restaurateurs who owned a tavern, but she held many other jobs, in print shops and in textile companies. She married in 1952 and had two sons, Gianluigi and Maurizio, who remain close to her, along with her grandchildren.

How to Become a Centenarian: A Textbook Life

If she's reached 100, it's probably partly a question of genetics, given that one of her aunts died at 101, but Tullia certainly had her share: she's one of those "textbook" centenarians who leads a life that includes all the constants that, according to experts, those fortunate enough to reach her age have in common. She leads a very active life for her 100 years, healthy, outdoors, eats a balanced diet, and also keeps her mind very active.

The “secrets” of longevity

Her children told local reporters who came to tell her story that she has always loved gardening, being in touch with nature, and raising chickens. When asked what the secret to Tullia's longevity is, they replied that it's primarily food. She's always been very careful about her diet and prefers to eat fruits and vegetables from her own garden rather than buying them. In fact, when they're not available, she often scolds her children for not buying the quality products she would have liked. She also loves to enjoy the table: at lunch, she drinks a glass of red wine with dishes she prepares herself, because yes, at 100, Tullia still cooks. Not only that, she also takes care of other household chores, like the laundry, and remembers all the small, important financial deadlines of everyday life, like bills. Finally, she spends her days doing many things she enjoys and that keep her active: she reads the newspaper, watches talk shows to stay informed on current political events and, above all, she is surrounded by many people who love her.
