Hence, I scoured the internet for food places in Khatib and unearthed a list of eateries worth checking out. From a famous hawker stall specialising in white carrot cake to a restaurant that pioneered the creation of lobster porridge, here are eight Khatib food places you should visit the next time you’re in the area.

• 1. Suki Suki Thai Hot Pot

For hotpot in the North, head over to Suki Suki Thai Hot Pot, a halal-certified restaurant located at HomeTeamNS Khatib. Their lunch buffet, which runs from Monday to Thursday, costs $22.90++ per person and offers a variety of thinly sliced beef, fresh vegetables, and house-made fish paste. If you’re here for dinner, the buffet stretches to $27.90++ per person and also includes a selection of seafood such as baby octopus.

Soup bases come in six variations, with the classic Red Tom Yum and Sweet Basil Chicken being crowd favourites. Don’t miss out on the assortment of meatballs, fishcakes, and cheese tofu from the regular menu too. A standout is the Chicken Cheese Ball, which has a gooey cheese core.

Seafood enthusiasts can treat themselves to the eatery’s diverse crab offerings, which include flavours such as black pepper and salted egg yolk. They’ve got classic chilli crab on the menu too!

If seafood isn’t your jam, try their Fried Wanton Noodle ($4) or Chicken Banmian ($4.80) instead. To complete your meal in true Mr Teh Tarik style, order a glass of their renowned Teh Tarik ($1.90) or go for the “dinosaur” version, priced at $2.70. Beyond its unique concept, Sasco Cafe also offers a variety of pastries, cakes, plant-based waffles, and vegan ice cream priced affordably from $3.50. Some of the cafe’s bakes are sourced from Asanoya Boulangerie, a Japanese bakery known for their cute animal-shaped buns.

Treat your tastebuds to some bussin’ rojak at Hojiak Rojak, a popular stall that’s been serving this local treat to Khatib residents for many years. True to their name, which translates to “delicious” in Hokkien, they’re most known for their yummy Black Rojak ($4/$5/$6), which features a medley of crispy tofu, dough fritters, cucumber, turnip slices, and diced peanuts. The star of this dish is said to be the hae ko, an indulgent black shrimp paste that tastes similar to belacan.

You can also order White Rojak ($4/$5/$6), which comes with a drizzle of sour plum sauce for a touch of tang. Add-on options are available too, including cuttlefish ($1.50), tau pok ($1), and century egg ($1).

Located just a five-minute walk from Khatib MRT Station, Orchid Live Seafood is famous for pioneering the creation of lobster porridge. Their Live Lobster Porridge (from $72++) features live-caught lobsters that are prepared in the restaurant’s signature Teochew style.

During our visit, we opted for the Southern Australian Lobster with our porridge, which was incredibly succulent and sweet. Another standout dish was the Salted Baked Yellow Roe Crab ($120++ for two pieces), featuring roe-filled insides and salt-encrusted outsides, and the tender HK Style Steamed Soon Hock Fish ($8++ per 100g).
