Saucy Fried Chicken Sandwiches Are Coming to St. Paul’s East Side
Fried chicken operation Burnt Chicken, which built a local following through pop-ups at BlackStack Brewing and a residency at First Draft Tap Haus (which closed in January), is opening a new restaurant on St. Paul’s Payne Avenue, in the former East Side Bar space.
Southwest loses one farmers market; gains another
South Minneapolis’s Fulton Farmers Market at 4901 Chowen Avenue S. is closing for good at the end of the 2024 season, Southwest Voices reports. But next year, a new market located in the parking lot of Mount Olivet Lutheran Church at 5025 Knox Avenue S. will take its place. Neighborhood Roots, the organization that runs the Fulton, Lake Nokomis, and Kingfield farmers markets, made the call to move to a more “visible” and central location, citing declining attendance and vendor participation. (Mount Olivet is smack dab in the middle of the Fulton, Lynnhurst, Tangletown, Armatage, Kenny, and Windom neighborhoods, which total about 33,000 residents, per Southwest Voices, compared to Fulton’s 7,000.) The Southwest Farmers Market, as the new market is called, will debut in May 2025.
U.S. Bank Stadium gets a vegan vendor
Football fans and concertgoers have a new vegan food option at U.S. Bank Stadium, just in time for Vikings season. The Herbivorous Butcher announced on Instagram September 13 that it’s officially open in Section 108/109, serving a gameday menu of pea protein burgers slathered in creamy Mac sauce from Herbie Butcher’s Fried Chicken, plus vegan bacon brats heaped with grilled peppers and onions. Looks like the stall has a few draft beers on tap, too, and a cooler stocked with canned beverages and soda.
