Detroit-style pizza pop-up Thunderbird Pies gets permanent digs
Thunderbird Pies, the Detroit-style pizza ghost kitchen from the minds behind Zoli’s and Cane Rosso, will soon have a brick and mortar location in White Rock. A Facebook account for Cane Rosso White Rock announced the location on December 29, saying the new Thunderbird Pies would be right next to Cane Rosso at 7328 Gaston Avenue.
Thunderbird, which serves up rectangular pies with edge-to-edge cheese, first opened last summer, operating out of a Zoli’s location in Addison. A second cloud location opened in Fort Worth in December. No word yet on an opening date for the dine-in location, which will also house an outpost of Cow Tipping Creamery, the ice cream chain also owned by pizza magnate Jay Jerrier.
Community rallies around Haute Sweets Patisserie after accident
Members of the Lake Highlands dining community, including several former employees of Haute Sweets Patisserie, have rallied around the restaurant following a freak accident in November in which an SUV accidentally crashed into the kitchen at 10230 E. Northwest Highway. Three of the bakery’s employees, including chef-owner Tida Pichakron, were hospitlaized after the November 17 crash. Following the accident, friends of the restaurant launched a GoFundMe that eventually raised more than $23,000, the Dallas Morning News reports. Haute Sweets reopened on December 8, and plans are in the works for a second location at Hillcrest Village for later this year.
Korean Bakery Paris Baguette expands to Carrollton
French-Asian pastry shop Paris Baguette, first founded in Korea in 1988, is plotting a second North Texas location in Carrollton, CultureMap reports. A location in Lewisville opened in 2019. The chain is known for French-style baked goods like croissants, breads and pastries, with Asian-style ingredients, including matcha and red bean fillings. The Carrollton location is expected to open within the next few months.
