Otaku Now Offers Hard-to-Find Pantry Items and Boba
Sarah Gavigan’s Otaku Ramen and Otaku To-Go have both been back in takeout business for a few weeks now (while the dining room remain closed) — but now they’re drumming up some local excitement with a new boba program and small selection of hard-to find pantry items.
Gavigan announced over the weekend in a new “coffee talk” video on her personal Instagram that her new Otaku Pantry would offer hard-to-find in Nashville ingredients. Today they’re offering their crunchy spicy house Rayu chili oil (so hot right now), and also plan to sell their house burnt miso butter and shio koji made from Proper Sake koji. She says she’ll offer sake kasu too (lees leftover from Proper Sake production) - and teach home cooks how to use at home.
Otaku’s new boba program rolls out this Thursday, May 28, and will feature classic boba flavors alongside weekly seasonal specials.
Otaku Ramen and Otaku To-Go also feature a few favorite dishes from its sister restaurant in the Gulch — Bar Otaku’s Tokyo fried chicken and taco rice are on the menu for takeout or delivery. To drink there are cocktails by the quart, Japanese beer growlers, sake, sochu, and bottled wine and beer to-go. For dessert they’ve added mini peanut butter miso mud pies from local pie purveyor CaityPies. Go online to order for pick-up or get delivery via Postmates from either location.
