Lugana Harmonie senza tempo returns to Rome, tasting event

The event dedicated to Lugana, a Veneto-Lombard appellation known for its astonishing versatility, returns to Rome. Once again, the capital welcomes the Lugana DOC Consortium for a dedicated event that aims to raise awareness of Lugana in its various styles and promises to change perceptions about the longevity of white wines. Forty wineries will be present at Villa Piccolomini on Thursday, September 15th, for an exceptional tasting event overlooking the Eternal City, where guests can learn more about the characteristics of the Turbiana grape.

"We're returning to an important venue where we've been absent for several years to capture the essence of Lugana, to reveal its nuances to the general public and more sophisticated palates through the faces of the producers and their wines, which are the true essence of the territory," explains Fabio Zenato, newly appointed President of the Lugana DOC Consortium. These modern, two-faced wines offer immediate pleasure in younger vintages, lively, fresh, and crisp, yet also stand the test of time, displaying smooth, enveloping, voluptuous, and seductive sensations. "If I had to describe the essence of Lugana, I'd speak of versatility and balance. It's savory and fresh when young, excellent as an aperitif thanks to its drinkability. But one of its secrets is the harmony of its components, which, together with its rich flavors and minerality, make it a unique wine with great versatility in pairing and a unique ability to refine and evolve over time," continues the President.

To delve deeper into the dual nature of the Turbiana grape, a Masterclass for professionals will be held, led by journalist Daniele Cernilli, founder of Doctor Wine and the Essential Guide to Italian Wines. The theme of the event is "Immediacy and Longevity," with tastings of 10 labels, including 5 older vintages that capture the aging process of this renowned grape over time. It's an opportunity to discover a wine that currently exports 70% of its production but is aiming to pursue a dual strategy, consolidating exports, particularly to the American market, while also focusing on widespread distribution in the Italian market.

In this regard, the President has clear ideas and objectives: he wants to grow the denomination with an even greater focus on environmental sustainability and aim for increasingly higher quality targets, especially for the reserves, capable of standing alongside the world's great white wines. At the same time, he wants to promote wine tourism in the Lugana area, where the Consortium's 210 wineries—representing 210 entrepreneurial families—dedicate themselves with care and dedication to visitors, confident that the best ambassadors for a wine are the enthusiasts who bring home "a piece of the territory."
