Walnut barmak

Condensed milk and walnut cake is a Venezuelan nut dessert that captivates with its simplicity and rich flavor. In Venezuela, this cake is a true classic: it's baked for birthdays, family celebrations, and simply for Sunday tea.

Ingredients · Servings 20
  • peeled walnuts – 500 g
  • sour cream – 200 g
  • butter – 50 g + 1.5 tbsp.
  • salt – to taste
  • sifted flour – 300 g
  • sugar – 500 g
  • powdered sugar – 3 tbsp.
Method · 1 h
  1. Mix sour cream, 1.5 tablespoons of melted butter, and salt. Gradually add flour and knead into a thick dough. Roll out thinly and cut into squares.
  2. Grind the walnuts in a blender until finely ground and toast in a preheated dry frying pan, stirring, for 4–5 minutes. Remove from heat, cool, and mix with sugar and the remaining butter.
  3. Spread the filling on the dough squares and roll them up. Place them in a greased baking dish and bake for 30–35 minutes at 180°C. Dust the barmak with powdered sugar before serving.
