Fish fingers evoke nostalgia and are a perfect fast food option. They offer a characteristic crunch, a tender, flaky texture, and a good dose of protein, ready in minutes.

While delicious with just malt vinegar, there are ways to enhance them. One in particular makes taco-making a breeze: these fish sticks make the perfect fillings. Instead of frying fresh fish at home, a lengthy and messy cleanup process, buy a box of frozen fish sticks. Follow the instructions: conventional oven, microwave, or air fryer. Then all you need are tortillas and your favorite toppings.

Many fish sticks contain pollock, a white fish with a slightly less intense flavor than cod, but equally tender. They generally include garlic, onion powder, and spices such as paprika, providing a base flavor that doesn't preclude customization.

These crispy bites are the starting point for dream tacos. Add jalapeño for heat, sweet and sour coleslaw, or a smooth garlic-lime crema to contrast with their crunchy texture. Cotija cheese adds a salty touch, and fresh pico de gallo completes the experience. The best part is how easy they are: highly customizable. Skip the tortillas for Baja California-style taco bowls. With that in mind, grab a box of your favorite sticks and get ready to experiment on your next taco night.
