How long do stuffed eggs last?

Deviled eggs, with their creamy golden center, a sprinkle of paprika, and a touch of fresh dill, are a guaranteed hit at any dinner party. You can swap classic mayonnaise for sour cream for a tangy flavor, or add bits of bacon or salmon for a smoky touch.

You can also combine your favorite flavors (and use up leftovers) by presenting your guests with a colorful selection of eggs. Regardless of the secret ingredients you incorporate into your deviled eggs, their presence at any gathering is sure to have guests flocking to the buffet.

To avoid rushing in the kitchen, you can prepare the deviled eggs in advance. While they're unlikely to last long on the appetizer tray, it's important to know how long they take to spoil. The key is in the details; therefore, to enjoy a safe and delicious appetizer, be sure to calculate the egg preparation time carefully.

When it comes to stuffed eggs, the fresher the better.

If you consider yourself a party-planning expert, you might feel the urge to complete your kitchen to-do list as quickly as possible. But when it comes to eggs, the fresher, the better. Be careful not to prepare the deviled eggs too far in advance.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns against consuming cooked eggs that have been left at room temperature for more than two hours. During preparation, do not leave any part of the egg at room temperature for longer than that. Once deviled eggs are prepared, store them in the refrigerator immediately. While the FDA states that hard-boiled eggs can be safely consumed for up to seven days, deviled eggs are at their best within the first three to four days.

The expression "rotten eggs" exists for a reason. A sulfurous odor is an unmistakable sign that eggs have gone bad. Any unusual changes in their appearance or taste also indicate that they are no longer safe to eat.
