American Pistachio Growers, the nonprofit association that brings together American growers, presented a study conducted in collaboration with mUp Research, which found that 90% of Italians eat pistachios, consuming them on average three to four times a week. Younger generations, especially Millennials and Post-Millennials, are particularly drawn to these snacks, which they consider practical, innovative, and, above all, capable of creating moments of social interaction.

Vouchers for sociality

Feeling uncomfortable in a convivial setting, especially when guests aren't well known or when the dynamics are already established, is a common experience for nearly half of those interviewed. However, sharing food has been a fundamental form of social interaction since ancient times, when people gathered around the fire to eat together and tell stories. This practice has been shown to instill a sense of well-being and contribute to psychological well-being. It's therefore not surprising that over 80% of those interviewed participate in convivial gatherings at least once a month, particularly in Central and Southern Italy, where such occasions are even more frequent. In this context, focusing on food, such as pistachios, is an excellent way to avoid feeling left out and to spark conversations. With its extraordinary versatility and the ritual of opening the shell, pistachios emerge as an accelerator of conviviality: opening the shells, in addition to being a fun activity, becomes a social experience that fosters dialogue and relaxation, as confirmed by half of those interviewed. Furthermore, the format and way pistachios are consumed stimulate interaction: 40% of Italians believe this gesture can facilitate communication between people, thus making every encounter more pleasant and memorable.

Rich in quality

Popular with 72% of respondents, pistachios have a reputation as a healthy and light snack, with a distinctive flavor that appeals to 67% of those surveyed. The healthiness of a snack is important to 90% of Italians, reflecting a growing focus on a healthy and mindful diet. American pistachios have a balanced nutritional composition, are energizing, and provide numerous health benefits: a serving of approximately 30 grams contains approximately 165 calories and a full 6 grams of protein, provides significant amounts of carbohydrates and healthy fats, is high in fiber, which promotes a feeling of satiety, and is rich in minerals and a significant vitamin content.
