You make this crème brûlée with vanilla ice cream (yes, really)

A French classic: crème brûlée. What if we told you that you can make this delicious dessert with just 3 ingredients? The trick lies in using vanilla ice cream, so you don't have to make your own custard. Suddenly, it becomes a very easy dessert!

Making crème brûlée can be a challenge, and that lies mainly in whipping the custard. By using vanilla ice cream, you bypass that step. All you have to do is add egg yolks to melted ice cream and cook this mixture using the classic bain-marie method. You finish as usual by moving a crème brûlée torch over a thin layer of sugar. It can be that simple.

Crème brûlée with only 3 ingredients

  • Preheat the oven to 160 degrees and prepare four ramekins.
  • Scoop the vanilla ice cream into a bowl. Place the ice cream in the microwave and melt it for approximately 30 to 40 seconds. Let the melted ice cream cool for 5 minutes before adding the egg yolks.
  • Add the egg yolks to the melted ice. Mix well with a whisk until the egg yolks are incorporated into the batter.
  • Pour the crème brûlée mixture into the ramekins. Place the ramekins in a large baking dish. Pour water into the baking dish. Ensure the water reaches the rim of the crème brûlée; this prevents the custard from cracking.
  • Place the baking dish in the oven and bake the crème brûlée for 40 to 50 minutes. Transfer the ramekins to a cooling rack and let cool to room temperature. Then cover the ramekins with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  • Remove the crème brûlée from the refrigerator 30 minutes before serving. Sprinkle with a thin layer of sugar and caramelize with your crème brûlée torch. Let the dessert cool for 5 minutes and serve.
