Tomato salad with vitello tonnato sauce in 10 minutes
Vitello tonnato sauce forms the ideal base for a summery plate of tomatoes. This makes this tomato salad perfect for a summer lunch, now that those glossy vegetables are at their best. Delicious with some grilled sourdough bread and a cool glass of white wine.
Vitello tonnato sauce is a thickened sauce based on tuna, egg yolks, acid, and mustard. In Italian cuisine, the combination of the sauce and veal fricandeau is the most famous. Very tasty, but tomatoes and tuna also prove to be a winning combination.
Tomato salad with vitello tonnato sauce
- First, make the vitello tonnato sauce. To do this, put the contents of the tuna can with the egg yolks, mustard, and caper liquid into a measuring cup and mix with an immersion blender until smooth and creamy. Tip: the sauce works best when your ingredients are at room temperature.
- Divide the vitello tonnato sauce among plates. Spread it out nicely with the back of a spoon. Arrange the tomatoes playfully on top. Finish the tomato salad with some fresh oregano, coarse sea salt, and freshly ground black pepper. Delicious with some sourdough bread fried in butter.
