London is officially home to 3 of the best fish and chip shops in the whole country
Another day, another reason to add to the ever-lengthening list of reasons why London is so darn great.
Now in their 39th iteration, the hotly-anticipated annual awards are organised by the National Federation of Fish Friers. Their panel of a-fish-ionados scour every corner of the country each year in search of the very best plaices. And the shortlist for what is possibly the most coveted category has just been revealed.
Each establishment is judged based on a number of factors including the quality of food, hygiene, sustainability practices, customer service, and industry knowledge. 40 excellent eateries made the cut, three of which are right here in the capital city – proving that London chippies are certainly a lot batter than you’d expect.
The three London chippies to have made the cut are Chipping Wharf Fish & Chips in Bow, Fish! Kitchen in Southwark, and Skipjacks in Harrow. Chipping Wharf have recently celebrated four wonderful years of serving up their traditionally-made, sustainably-sourced, and utterly delicious fish and chips. Fish! Kitchen can be found over in Borough Market, dishing up a diverse selection of seafood, from the classics to the more creative. And Skipjacks is a beloved family-run business who have been flipping, frying, and filling the rumbling tummies of Londoners since 1969.
The board of judges will now whittle down the list to just 20 spots, before settling on the final 10. The winner will be announced in February at a fancy award ceremony in London.
