Maldon® Salt Cocktail Competition 2026: Mixology Meets Food
The world of mixology is increasingly embracing gastronomy, and with the fifth edition of the Maldon® Salt Cocktail Competition, cocktails become the focus of a comprehensive tasting experience.
For the 2026 edition, the concept has evolved: no longer just a signature cocktail, but a true Maldon® signature experience, built on the intersection of drink and food. Participants are asked to create an original cocktail and a simple finger food or side dish to pair with it, designed to interact and create a tasting experience where the act of drinking and nibbling alternate and complement each other.
Maldon® Salt at the heart of the experience
Naturally, the central element of the competition is Maldon® Salt, used as a structural ingredient in the cocktail and not simply as a garnish. Competitors can choose between the Original, Smoked, or Chilli-flavored versions, interpreting their characteristics to create balance, contrast, and harmony in the glass. Salt can also become the common thread between cocktails and food, strengthening the connection between the two.
The challenge leaves plenty of room for the professionals' creativity: ingredients and cocktail preparation techniques are free, while the pairing must be simple, accessible, consistent with the drink, and achievable during the competition. This choice aims to showcase not only the bartenders' technique, but above all their ability to develop an idea, transform it into an experience, and communicate it to the public.
Food pairing, in fact, isn't intended to be a test of haute cuisine, but rather an additional tool to expand the cocktail narrative. Even those without advanced cooking skills can participate: simple, intelligent ideas capable of creating an authentic connection between glass and taste will be rewarded.
Registration open until October 31st
To participate in the 2026 Maldon® Salt Cocktail Competition, you must register on the competition website (where you can view and download the complete rules) by October 31st, by filling out the appropriate form.
At the end of the selection phase, the authors of the 15 best recipes will advance to the final phase of the competition, scheduled for November: the winner will be awarded the title of Maldon® Brand Ambassador 2027.
