Things to Do in Willard, Missouri: Coffee, Trails and Local Shops

Just 10 miles northwest of downtown Springfield sits Willard, Missouri—a charming, unassuming town filled with character. It’s a town that’s easy to overlook but well worth a visit. Willard is an ideal destination for a day trip or an afternoon visit.

Coffee First, Always

Not only will a stop by The Hive (304 E. Jackson St #5E, Willard) bring a smile to your face because, well, coffee, but also because of the people serving it. The cafe provides employment opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, helping employees build valuable skills that prepare them for future careers. Along with specialty coffee drinks, the menu includes breakfast favorites like biscuits and gravy and avocado toast, plus lunchtime options such as chicken salad and french dip sandwiches.

Treasure Hunting

Make a stop at Calm & Collected Mercantile (304 E. Jackson St. #6E, Willard) to browse a thoughtful mix of antiques and vintage finds. It’s the kind of place where you never quite know what you’ll walk out with, but you’ll be glad you stopped in.

Get Outside

Hit the Frisco Highline Trail at the Willard trailhead and head toward Bolivar for an easy stretch of paved path that shows off the Ozarks. At mile 6, just across from the Willard Trailhead, you’ll find the 1908 Bank Robbery kiosk, which shares the story of two historic robbers who made their escape on a handcar down the railroad tracks. If you’re passing through on a Friday evening, stop by the farmers market near the trailhead to browse local goods. Find the Frisco Highline Trail map at ozarkgreenways.org.

Grab A Bite

Stop in at Mile 6 Taproom (115 E. Jackson St., Willard) for a post-trail bite and drink. The spot is a spin-off of Springfield BrewCo, bringing the same local energy in a more laid-back setting. It’s a natural place to refuel after time on the Frisco Highline Trail.

Friendly Competition

End the day in Willard at The Pinball Social Club (406 S. Miller Road, Willard), the newest spot on this list and an easy way to wrap up your visit on a fun note. Owned by Matt and Cassie Darst, the space has pinball machines and occasional tournaments, making it just as fun for a quick stop as it is for a longer stay.
