Taurasi. Wine, culture, and gastronomy transform the heart of Irpinia
Two days of cellars, masterclasses, and guided tours through the village streets.
Wine becomes part of the landscape, the history, and the identity of the village: in Taurasi, this is what you breathe in the cellars, in the vineyards surrounding the town, and in the very name of one of Italy's most important appellations. This connection is the basis for "September in the Village – From Door to Door in the Name of Wine Between the Gates of Taurasi," an event scheduled for September 26th and 27th in the historic center of Taurasi, in the province of Avellino, organized by the Committee for the Historic Center of Taurasi and the Municipality of Taurasi.
Two days during which the town opens its stone heritage, alleys, and small squares to a story told through wine. Not just a simple food and wine festival, but a journey through a cultural landscape where wine is part of the history, economy, and identity of a community.
The heart of the event will be "La Festa del Vino," dedicated to Taurasi DOCG, one of Italy's great reds and one of the most important expressions of Aglianico. A wine named after the village and which, over time, has become one of Irpinia's most recognizable signatures.
THE PROGRAM
- Saturday, September 26:
- 6:30 PM – Inauguration at the Taurasi Marchionale Castle, with a toast.
- 8:00 PM – Food stands open throughout the historic center. The town squares will become live stages for live music, complementing the evening with tastings, drinks, and strolls through the historic heart of Taurasi.
- Sunday, September 27:
- 10:30 am – Guided tours and a sensory journey dedicated to the five senses and wine inside the Castle.
- From 12:00 to 15:00 – Lunch with the opening of the food stands.
- 6:00 PM – Masterclass and guided tasting of Taurasi DOCG at Castello Marchionale, led by professional sommeliers (registration required).
- 8:00 PM – Stands reopen for dinner.
- 9:00 PM – Live music returns to the squares.
- Permanent appointments (both days):
- Guided tours of the Marchionale Castle: from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 16:00 to 20:00.
- Sensory wine tour: during the same hours as the Castle and by reservation.
- Open cellars in the village: meet the producers, taste, and purchase wines.
In Taurasi, wine isn't just a product of excellence: it's a form of belonging. Taurasi DOCG, made from Aglianico grapes, represents one of the most prestigious expressions of Campanian and Italian viticulture, deeply rooted in the Irpinia hills and local communities.

For Pierluigi D'Ambrosio, City Councilor responsible for events and tourism, the initiative is an invitation to truly explore the town: "We imagined Settembre al Borgo as an invitation to explore Taurasi. From door to door, it means entering the town, discovering its hidden corners... and understanding the profound connection between this village and its wine."
Two days, then, to discover Taurasi without rushing: following the village gates, entering its places, listening to its stories and tasting its character.
