Gold for Almere: wine from Oosterwold wins medal at national wine competition
An Almere wine has won a gold medal at this year's Wine Tasting of the Low Countries.
The wine in question
The 'OSTRWLDR White 2025' is a dry white wine from the 2025 vintage. It is a blend of two of our own wines, one of which was spontaneously fermented and aged in old oak, and the other conventionally fermented and aged in new oak.
The wine is made by Barry and Shirley van Oostrom of the Life Contains Beautiful Things vineyard, where they offer small-scale overnight stays alongside wine. "We make wine as the soil allows, no more, no less," say the owners.
Almere was represented by only one participant in the tasting. And that participant immediately managed to take home the highest distinction. The tasting is organized annually by the Netherlands Wine Institute Foundation, with an independent jury that evaluates the wines blind. The medals were presented on Wednesday, September 16, at the Dutch Wine Museum in Arnhem.
Record number of gold medals
The competition awarded a record number of 103 gold medals this year. 64 wineries participated, of which 51 were Dutch and 13 Belgian. The most frequently rewarded white grape varieties were Johanniter, Souvignier Gris, and Solaris. Among the red varieties, these were Cabernet Cortis and Pinot Noir.
