There's a Portuguese restaurant on the list of the best steakhouses in Europe
Sala de Corte is one of those steakhouses that never disappoints – and it seems the experts agree. This Monday, the 8th, the European list of the World's 101 Best Steak Restaurants was released, and the ranking places the Lisbon restaurant among the continent's leading establishments.
Located in Praça D. Luís I, in Cais do Sodré, Sala de Corte has been establishing its own identity through a dedicated approach to meat, its origin, maturation processes, and different wine pairings. Maturation in a dedicated chamber and cooking in a Josper oven, using charcoal, remain central to the restaurant's gastronomic offering.
The organization responsible for the ranking was founded in London in 2018 and is known for sending a network of anonymous "ambassadors" to evaluate hundreds of restaurants.
The evaluations are based on dozens of criteria, from the quality of the meat and the aging technique to the wine list and service, before narrowing the results down to a final list.
In March of this year, the complete list, which included all continents, was released. It was the first time, since the ranking was launched, that the restaurant in Cais do Sodré was not included.
Now that the lists for each continent have been revealed, Sala de Corte, with a team led by chef António Ribeiro, is once again featured prominently. The World's 101 Best Steak Restaurants revealed the winners through Instagram posts, and Portugal appeared in 50th place.
This distinction comes at a time when the menu has recently been enhanced with new offerings. Among the new additions is the Tomahawk steak, served by weight, which joins cuts such as Flank Steak, Ribeye, Sirloin, Chateaubriand, Lomo Bajo, T-Bone, and Rib Eye Kobe.
