Zero-olive wine is gaining ground and Castilla-La Mancha is finding its place
Two of the special awards go to Spanish wines in a category that continues to gain international presence.
Non-alcoholic wine continues to gain ground in the international market. The results of the second edition of MUNDUS VINI Non-Alcoholic 2026 show an increasingly broad category, with 71 dealcoholized wines and sparkling wines recognized by the international jury: 28 Gold medals and 43 Silver medals.
Germany, Italy, and Spain accounted for more than 80% of the award-winning products, according to the results published by the organization. The competition brought together entries from diverse countries and backgrounds in a category that continues to expand its offerings.
The Spanish presence is further highlighted by two special awards at this year's competition. Oleada Fizzy White received Best of Show Sparkling Spain, while ZENO Alcohol-Liberated Viura won Best of Show Spain. In the case of Oleada Fizzy White, the competition entry lists the growing region as Castilla-La Mancha, even though the commercial brand is Oleada Barcelona.
Castilla-La Mancha also appears among the recognized
Along with Oleada Fizzy White, among the recognized products is Viña Xétar Tempranillo 0.0%, produced by the El Progreso cooperative, from Villarrubia de los Ojos (Ciudad Real).
MUNDUS VINI identifies this reference as a dealcoholized wine, made with Tempranillo grapes and with an alcohol content of 0.00%.
This recognition also comes at a time when El Progreso is expanding its range of lower-alcohol products. The cooperative is working on a new Viña Xétar with an intermediate alcohol content between its existing low-alcohol offering and the current 0.0% ABV, a project announced by its president, Jesús Julián Casanova, last August. They are also considering introducing a smaller bottle format.
The evolution of this range shows that the reduction of alcohol is leading to different offerings. Alongside 0.0% wines, there are now wines with intermediate alcohol content and in different styles, expanding the possibilities for wineries working in this segment.
A category with more international competition
The results from MUNDUS VINI show that non-alcoholic wine already has an international offering in which large groups, traditional wineries and specialized producers coexist.
This second edition features wines and sparkling wines from different countries and with varying profiles, with a particularly strong presence from Germany, Italy, and Spain. Special recognitions also include wines from France, Italy, and Germany.
The organization itself highlights the evolution of quality as one of the key aspects of the competition. This trend was also reflected in the first edition of MUNDUS VINI Non-Alcoholic in 2016, held in the spring, when Spain received 62 awards out of a total of 208 prizes awarded to non-alcoholic wines and sparkling wines.
