Tomato, cherry, or chili pepper? This autumn, wear red, and here is how

Every season has its main color, and this coming autumn and winter, that will be red once again. Tomato, cherry, or chili pepper? You choose which shade tastes best.

Red has been wildly popular for a few seasons now, both on and off the catwalk. Not a subtle cherry red or burgundy, but a flashy bright red that openly defines your entire silhouette. Tone-on-tone is possible, but might be quite striking for many people. With just one item or accent in the shade, it looks slightly more subdued, as seen in the campaign images for the new Uniqlo U collection. There, Christophe Lemaire and Sarah-Linh Tran, for whom this is also the final collection for the Japanese retail chain, combine red with base colors such as black, beige, and white for a classy yet playful effect.

Still not sure how to get started? With the styling tips below, you'll be well on your way.

Say it with socks

Do you love color, but aren't quite ready to fully immerse yourself in red? Dip your toe in it! Red socks or tights give your outfit a cool extra touch without stepping too far outside your comfort zone. A tie in the trend color is also a nice option: it peeks out subtly and is instantly one of the trend pieces of the moment.

Red and white

As mentioned earlier, red works well in combination with beige and white. But the striking effect of red truly comes into its own through the simplicity of white. White and red striped pullovers or shirts, checks in both colors, or even polka dots: these two colors actually go well together in any form. Also making a big comeback are baseball T-shirts with a white body and contrasting red sleeves.

Start small

Red socks or tights aren't the only way to subtly incorporate the color into your wardrobe. Try a red bag, ballet flats, slingbacks with a kitten heel, or the popular flat torpedo sneakers. Be sure to check out those by Dries Van Noten!

Red at the bottom

Red trousers or a skirt often feel surprisingly wearable because the color is further away from your face. With a white shirt, grey sweater, or beige blazer, you immediately have a fairly simple look. A bottom in this shade is also ideal for people who are prone to facial redness, for example due to rosacea or blushing, and find that a red top accentuates it even more.

Office Red

Here's how to wear red to work: opt for timeless pieces and cuts, such as an oversized cotton shirt and a satin-look midi skirt. Balance this with minimalist footwear like simple black mules or classic boots.

Golden combination

Red with denim is perhaps the easiest combination to wear. A red sweater, cardigan, or jacket with classic blue jeans feels much less striking than red with black and instantly gives your look a casual edge.

And-and story

For those who love having all eyes on them: pull a red piece off the rack that, in addition to its striking color, is also extravagant in terms of material or silhouette. Think tulle, faux fur, or glitter. Sometimes you just have to embrace the excess!

Red leather

A leather coat is a so-called wardrobe essential for autumn. A red leather coat or cardigan is a less harsh alternative to the black version and is therefore also very trendy. Wear your coat over a little black dress for a romantic evening out or pair it with dark blue jeans.
