For porridge, I prefer to use rolled oats cooked slowly. I like how they cook thoroughly, resulting in a soft, creamy, and smooth texture.

Place the oats in a saucepan.

You can add sugar immediately. If the figs are very sweet, you can omit it; it all depends on your preference.

Pour the milk over the oats. I prefer my porridge cooked with milk, but you can dilute it with water in a 1:1 ratio if you prefer. Place the saucepan on the stove and turn the heat down to low; then, begin cooking the porridge. According to the package instructions, the oats you chose should cook for 15 minutes. I cooked mine for about 20 minutes.

There's a small warning to be aware of when cooking with milk: it can burn and stick to the bottom or boil over. Therefore, stir the porridge periodically, especially towards the end of cooking.

To prevent the milk from boiling over, place a wooden spoon across the saucepan. However, keep in mind that the spoon doesn't eliminate the need to keep an eye on the porridge.

While the porridge simmers, let's prepare the figs. Wash the fresh figs thoroughly. If they have any parts you don't like (for example, if they're rotten), carefully remove them and cut them into small pieces.

Once the porridge is ready, remove it from the heat. Add a small knob of butter and the prepared figs.

Mix everything carefully, cover the saucepan and let it rest for about 5 minutes.

During this time, the oatmeal with figs will become even more tender, the butter will melt completely, and the figs will warm up slightly, adding their aroma and sweetness to the porridge.
