The restaurants in King's Cross recommended by the editorial team
From Décimo's terrace overlooking London, to Coal Terrace's kubalah bread or Isla's chocolate cake in King's Cross.
Décimo, on the tenth floor of the Standard Hotel, is reached by a panoramic red elevator suspended from the facade. Paola Arenas, originally from Mexico City, has been appointed head chef following the departure of Peter Sanchez-Iglesias. Her menu retains some of her predecessor's dishes, such as the tuna tostadas, and adds more sophisticated traditional Mexican dishes, designed for sharing.
Coal Terrace, on the rooftop of Coal Office, overlooks Regent's Canal and Coal Drops Yard, nestled among lemon, bay, and olive trees. Executive Chef Dan Pellas has created a Middle Eastern-inspired menu. A highlight is the kubalah bread, a Yemeni version of brioche, served with silan, olive oil, and za'atar.
Half Cut Market, on York Way, combines a restaurant, wine bar, and shop. Its natural, low-intervention wine list is curated by Holly Willcocks, head winemaker at Mountain in Soho, and its signature dish is grilled cabbage topped with peppers and dressed with a sweetcorn sauce.
Isla occupies the top floor of Mare Street Market, with two chefs: Tom Brown, a seafood specialist, and Brad Carter, a land-based specialist. Among their dishes are a whole grilled John Dory smothered in Café de Paris butter with capers, and a dry-aged ribeye steak.
