Rafa Zafra adds Casa de Comidas, a concept inspired by roadside restaurants

Rafa Zafra adds Casa de Comidas to the eight restaurants he already has between Barcelona and Madrid, inspired by the memory of accompanying his father in a truck.

Casa de Comidas is located in the NH Collection Madrid Eurobuilding hotel, where Zafra also owns Bikini, a tapas and sandwich bar. Following his culinary philosophy, based on the best seasonal products and sometimes presented with a touch of sophistication, the menu includes starters such as anchovies from the Cantabrian coast with bread and tomato, Russian salad with tuna belly and pickled peppers, or roasted leek with hazelnut praline and black olive vinaigrette.

There's a section dedicated to soups and creams, featuring Cordoban salmorejo with ham and grapes, or pumpkin cream with crème fraîche and croutons. Another section, featuring stews, includes lentil stew with foie gras and baby squid, verdina beans with seasonal mushrooms, or white asparagus with pil-pil sauce and citrus.

Eggs and pasta take center stage, from huevos a la flamenca to macaroni alla cardinale. The emphasis is on fish, the Seville chef's specialty: Roman-style hake tacos with tartar sauce, confit skate with Mediterranean gherkin vinaigrette, and confit cod loins with spinach and pine nuts.

For meat lovers, among other dishes, there are beef and pork meatballs with black trumpet mushrooms, Iberian pork cheeks braised in red wine with mashed potatoes, and shoulder of kid goat with caramelized shallots.

The desserts are made in the restaurant and presented on a cart so that the customer can choose between rice pudding, egg custard and vanilla or chocolate cake.

Casa de Comidas has an average entrance fee of 50 euros, a terrace, a lounge with an open kitchen, high and low tables, and several private rooms.
