Le Brocchette in Fiumicino. We know that Fiumicino has become a popular dining destination for those who want to escape the city without straying too far. Among the places to keep an eye on is Hostaria di mare Le Brocchette, opened in 2010 and run by Carmine Carli, with over 40 years of experience in the restaurant business in Rome and the surrounding area. Le Brocchette has become his home: a large outdoor space that can be enjoyed year-round thanks to its large windows and retractable roof, a true outdoor dining area, insulated and heated in the winter. Here, seafood cuisine takes center stage.
“The strong bond developed over the years with the fishermen of Fiumicino – says Carmine Carli – has allowed me to overcome the 'fear' of depending on the sea and its availability, understanding that the daily alternation of fish and shellfish could become the strong point of the restaurant's gastronomic offering”. The menu therefore follows the catch of the day and the availability of the sea (on the menu “I was able to eliminate the asterisk” explains Carli), with the fish display on full display, where you can admire, and then choose, meagre, gilt-head bream and sea bass… The dishes change daily, and among these we can find starters such as bruschetta with caramelised Tropea onion and local fish (9 euros) and local octopus with lemon (16).
Among the first courses, spaghetti with clams (17 euros), with pasta from Pastificio Dei Campi, or fettuccine with lobster (35). And also, stuffed squid, with Taggiasca olives, anchovy sauce and panko bread, fish meatballs and prawn with beetroot, Greek yogurt and lime.
There are a variety of cooking methods to choose from: baked or grilled, cooked in salt or in "acqua pazza" (crazy water), or even at low temperatures. The menu also features a rich selection of raw fish, oysters (eight different types), and caviar (four varieties available).
The seafood dishes are accompanied by a wine list featuring over 150 labels, with a focus on Lazio and native grape varieties from various Italian regions. The Champagne selection is also good, with a wide range of terroirs, productions, vintages, and prices. There are also a few international wines, including bottles from South Africa, Chile, and Spain. Finally, Le Brocchette also offers a wide selection of spirits and a few cocktails.
