Vegan Nutella is now official: here's when it's coming

Vegan Nutella has been around for some time now. A plant-based version was announced at the end of 2023, and the trademark was registered. Now it seems to be official, with a date set for its arrival on supermarket shelves.

Ferrero and the VéGé Group made the announcement in Cagliari during Linkontro, the annual event organized by market research firm NielsenIQ. But when will it be available? Starting in fall 2024, vegan Nutella will be available to everyone, not as a replacement for the original version, but as an alternative. Little or nothing is known about the ingredients at this time, although knowing the world's most famous spread well, we can say with certainty that skimmed milk powder will be eliminated, making the new product suitable for those who don't eat ingredients of animal origin and those who are lactose intolerant. It will most likely contain the much-discussed palm oil, already present in the original version and which Ferrero never intended to eliminate.

The characteristics that have made Nutella an “iconic global treat,” as Giorgio Santambrogio, CEO of the VéGé group, defined it on social media, should not change, announcing the new product with these words: “We also like to be partners in the innovations of our friends in the industry, and here we are with the innovation of innovations: Nutella changes, evolves and here is the launch of Nutella plant-based.”
